Education and Support
Patient education is an integral part of each person’s treatment in the program. All patients are required to attend an information session hosted by the program staff and one of our surgeons. They will be able to answer your questions about weight loss surgery.
The information session is the first step in your weight loss journey and gives you an opportunity to find out if weight loss surgery is right for you. There is no cost for this lecture and you are under no obligation to move forward with surgery.
Informational sessions are currently available online. Topics covered in the informational lecture include:
- Background information on obesity
- Causes, co-morbidities and criteria for surgery
- Surgical treatments
- Potential benefits
- Possible risks and complications
- Insurance information summary/questions and answers
If you would like to proceed with surgery we can schedule an appointment for an initial consultation with one of our providers once you have completed the informational session.
Many health insurance plans cover weight loss surgery however plan coverage does vary. It is important to contact your insurance provider to determine if you have obesity benefits or if your policy will cover weight loss surgery.
